Press Release

The Bell County School District Posts Significant Gains in 2009 NCLB and KCCT Results

Through the calculation of a "transition index" by the Council for Better Education, the Kentucky Association of School Councils, and the Prichard Committee for Academic Excellence all Bell County Schools have been designated as "on track to 100" with Right Fork exceeding that mark with a 2009 index of 102. The Bell County School District elementary, middle, and high school index as well as the percentages of students scoring proficient/distinguished was significantly higher than the state averages. The elementary index in reading, math, and science was 100, 102, and 103 respectively. Marked gains in math and science was evidenced at the middle grades level with reading, social studies, and on demand writing showing the largest gains at the high school level.

All Bell County elementary schools surpassed the NCLB targets in reading and math with strong increases in the number of students scoring proficient or distinguished. These strong gains were reflected at the district level with record breaking numbers of students meeting the NCLB goals in reading and math.

The students in Jessica Grigsby's 2nd grade classroom at Yellow Creek School Center are enjoying the reading loft built for them by  Kevin Lefevers and the carpentry class at Bell County Vocational School. The loft has been a wonderful addition to the literacy efforts of Ms. Grigsby and her collaborating teacher, Elizabeth Denny.
